Why would Female Genital Mutilation thrive?
UNICEF estimates that 25 million girls and women have undergone Female Genital Mutilation (FGM) in Ethiopia. Fathers bear to see it happen to their daughters, brothers to their sisters, even mothers who suffered life long consequences from FGM passionately make their girls experience that same excruciating pain. FGM continued to be the blood adorned tale across Ethiopia. It‘s claws dig deep engraving pain on young girls while masked in cultural identity, purity, modesty, aesthetics, status and honour. The truth is, FGM is an attempt to control women‘s sexuality while magnifying gender inequality. What more paralysing judgement could there be than being revoked of the natural? What is more sickening than being exposed for pain which leads to increased pain?
